Advocacy activities to encourage Rwanda to join the TPNW
Since January 22, 2021, nuclear weapons are subject to a global treaty-based outright ban for the first time. This is a historic achievement that marks a decisive step towards the abolition of the world’s most devastating weapons.
The new treaty strengthens the norm prohibiting the possession and use of nuclear weapons, and delegitimizes the dangerous and misguided theory of “nuclear deterrence,” which has long been mooted to justify the indefinite maintenance of nuclear weapons.
AJECL, in collaboration with some NGOs in Rwanda and, thanks to the partnership with ICAN (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons), has organized various advocacy activities to encourage Rwanda, as a nation committed for a long time to disarmament nuclear, to join the TPNW (Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons) as soon as possible.
